Virtual ConnectTherapy™, the Pelvis & the Abdominal Wall
Find the Driver & Treat the Whole Person with ConnectTherapy™
This self-paced, Virtual Course is the online pre-requisite that must be completed prior to the In-Person portion.
Low back pain and pelvic girdle pain are common problems experienced by patients seen in clinical practice, from postpartum women to elite athletes. A challenge for therapists and patients is that often these problems are recurrent and chronic, and research evidence to indicate what the most effective treatment protocol for these injuries is often contradictory and leaves the responsible clinician with more questions.
Furthermore, the physiotherapist may have several patients with the exact same presentation of “SIJ pain” or “SIJ instability” but who do not respond to the same treatment and training interventions. Why do some patients respond to treatment of the low back, pelvis and hip region but others do not?
The answer lies in understanding not only the function of the pelvis, abdominal wall, and low back, but how these regions behave in the context of whole body, meaningful movements. By understanding the connections of the pelvis to the rest of the body. The pelvis may be symptomatic, but may not be the underlying cause of the symptoms.
ConnectTherapy™ is a whole body evidence-informed approach that provides physiotherapists with a robust diagnostic assessment to determine when the dysfunctional pelvis is the underlying cause, or “Driver” of symptoms, or if the pelvis is the victim of a Driver elsewhere in the body.
Determining the location of the patient’s Drivers provides the pathway to the most efficient and effective treatment plan to relieve symptoms and restore whole body optimal function and performance. This is the pathway to helping patients reach their movement goals.
You’ll also learn the signs that indicate when the Pelvis is not the Primary Driver, and the reasoning to determine where the true Driver is located.
You’ll also come away from this course with a clear understanding of the influence of other body regions on the pelvis, including Dr. LJ Lee’s innovative proposals from the Thoracic Ring Approach™. Learn about the connections both anatomically and neurologically that underpin thoracic-driven pelvic girdle pain and how the thorax drives abdominal wall problems like Diastasis Rectus Abdominis (DRA), pelvic organ prolapse and other pelvic floor symptoms.
For patients with Pelvis Drivers, you’ll learn about the different patterns of underlying impairments that are possible in the pelvis, and what the treatment plan is for each of the different patterns of pelvis Drivers. We’ll take you through the clinical reasoning process to determine the best treatment pathway for individual patients with Pelvis Drivers. This will include a discussion of pelvic floor function and when you should consider a referral to a pelvic health physiotherapist for an internal assessment.
We’ll also cover important treatment questions such as:
Is is relevant to train the ability to recruit the deep Transversus Abdominis (TrA) muscle or not? What about upper, middle and lower TrA for diastasis patients? Or this is over-complication and we simply need to progressively increase movement training? Why do “core stability” exercises help some patients and make other patients feel worse?
This 10-hour Virtual course includes demonstrations, lectures, videos of real-time ultrasound, and case study discussion. If you join LJ for the “Live” session of this course, you will have the opportunity to ask questions, and then you’ll have access to the online recordings of the course for 12 months. If you register after the Live sessions, you’ll be able to go through the content at a pace that works for you; you’ll have access to the content for 12 months from the date you register.
This course is the pre-requisite for the 2.5 day In-Person Practical course: ConnectTherapy™ , the Pelvis & the Abdominal Wall.
